Park Place: McLean, Virginia | Backlit Onyx Lighting Fixtures

Architect: Leo A. Daly | Contractor: Clark Construction

When backlighting large areas of translucent surfaces, a clean finished look is achieved by hiding the supporting steel framework that holds both the lighting element and the translucent surface itself. For the custom light sconces that adorn the Park Place office building lobby, GPI created a structural system that had the strength to suspend large natural stone light fixtures while hiding all shadow lines and hot spots. The custom-engineered structural system eliminated all exterior hardware and allowed the 12’ by 3’ DURA-Lite™ natural stone surfaces to evenly illuminate.

The result: eliminating all external hardware on the largest knife mitered natural stone lighting sconces ever made.
