Thursday Salute to Originals: Flower Engineering

Valentine’s Day is full of commercial giving: cards, chocolates, stuffed animals holding plush hearts with cheesy sentiments, and last but not least – roses.  This innovator shatters the notions of traditional floral arrangements, stripping back the elements to reveal new forms, colors, and uses.

Andreas Verheijen, now dubbed “the flower engineer”, worked as a florist in Britain for 16 years, where one can only assume he was pumping out the standard arrangements for commercialized holidays and anniversaries. Breaking out of the box, Andreas now creates arrangements on a freelance basis and focuses his talents on customized events, crafted around a client’s individual needs.
