The historic courthouse in Norristown, Pennsylvania has been reimagined by SOM. The original landmark courthouse will be renovated, and a new structure will be constructed – the facade of which will be clad with glass printed with natural stone imagery. As part of a unique consultancy role, for this new building, GPI defined and honed the desired characteristics for the stone, found matching physical material, and procured the final slabs. Each stone slab was then meticulously scanned in high resolution with a proprietary image capturing process developed by GPI. Digital files were later transferred to SOM for final manipulation and layout, which ultimately will be printed on glass and fitted into an IGU assembly in a pioneering design that blends natural stone aesthetic with the performance and functional properties of digital print technology in an IGU.
