Printed Stone Glass Facade

The Montgomery County Justice Center | Norristown, PA

The Montgomery County Justice Center in Norristown, Pennsylvania is a completed project by SOM that reimagines the historic courthouse through the renovation of the original landmark and construction of a new structure. GPI’s scope included natural stone consulting, stone sourcing, and digital image procurement and processing, supporting an innovative façade application featuring glass with digitally printed natural stone imagery. As part of GPI’s specialized consultancy role, the desired characteristics of the natural stone were first defined and refined to establish the appropriate aesthetic for the project. GPI then identified matching physical material, sourced and procured the final stone slabs, and meticulously captured each slab in high resolution using a proprietary image-capturing process developed by GPI.

The resulting digital files were transferred to SOM for final manipulation, composition, and layout. The imagery was ultimately printed onto glass and incorporated into an insulated glass unit (IGU) assembly, creating a pioneering façade that combines the visual character and depth of natural stone with the performance and functional advantages of digitally printed glass technology.
