Thursday Salute to Originals: Ultraviolet Bridges
In old Nordic mythology, the “Bifröst” is a rainbow bridge that connects the world of the gods to the world of humanity. Przemek Podolski and Marta Basandowska have created their own colorful, cosmic-themed bridges from string and light.
Using hundreds of yards of colorful string illuminated by black lights, Podolski and Basandowska construct massive, complex installations. The woven structures incorporate a wide range of geometric forms, from simple cubes to complex webs.

Each installation is carefully constructed by hand, making the uniform geometry within the woven bridges even more impressive.
In addition to the neon colors that have been a common theme of their work, the artists have begun to incorporate projection mapping into more recent string sculptures. These pieces add a dimension of motion and augmentation to an already complex form, adding intrigue and excitement.
Each work is designed to bring themes of cosmic wonder to life. With references to massive structures like galaxies and constellations, each immersive installment connects individuals to the infinitely large structures in the sky — like a bridge to the heavens.
This Thursday, we’re saluting Przemek Podolski and Marta Basandowska and their rainbow connections. You can view their most recent project — Decode the Code — on their Facebook and website.
