Thursday Salute to Originals: Face It

French artist Julien Malland (known as Seth Globepainter) takes us on a tour of his mind with a large-scale installation in Bordeaux.

Within the halls of the Institut Culturel Bernard Magrez museum in Bordeaux, Julien Malland has transformed the eighteenth-century castle into a colorful, immersive illustration of his world travels and a tour of his own mind.

The 1,2,3, Soleil exhibition includes over 50 of the artist’s infamous faceless child subjects within scenes from travels around the globe. Each colorful illustration is full of fascinating, even psychedelic landscapes made from geometrical shapes and references.

Each room of the exhibit captures both a travel scene and vibrant, explicit emotion. Even when facing away or missing a nose, eyes, and mouth, each subject seems to emote themes of wonder, frustration, sadness or euphoria.
