Thursday Salute to Originals: Restoration by Gifs
We know we’re living in the digital age, but this takes things to a whole new level…
Think about most of the world’s ancient architecture… How do you picture them? If you’re like most of us, you think of them as they stand now, often crumbling and in decay, hanging on desperately to any preservation. But what if we could envision them as they once were, and more — What if we can improve them?
Well, that’s exactly what NeoMam has done, but in a trendy and unique fashion. Gifs! Enter restoration in the digital age. Through these short gifs of digital reconstruction, NeoMam has restored six different architectural hotspots around the world, including Nan Modol in Micronesia, and elements of Hatra, an old, fortified city of the first Arab Kingdom. These sites are currently found on the list of endangered world heritage by UNESCO.
This Thursday, we’re saluting NeoMam for bringing awareness to these ruins through digitally reconstructive gifs. With this technology, we are able to see and appreciate what these incredible structures might have looked like today if time had not taken its toll.
