Thursday Salute to Originals: Giant Prismatic Abstractions

No, this isn’t a Skittles commercial. But you can definitely see the rainbow!

Meet artist Katharina Grosse, who created what is essentially a giant kaleidoscope that spills beyond the boundaries of the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart. These rainbow structures and paintings begin in the building with surges of color everywhere, and then they continue to transcend outside along the walls and the ground.

Grosse’s installation is titled It Wasn’t Us and she described her construction of it as though she was painting her way out of the building. Anyone who visits the installation and walks among the art will be treated to new views, as the prismatic pieces flow every which way at different angles! You can even watch a fully immersive video of It Wasn’t Us here and be amazed.

This Thursday we’re saluting and her massive, prismatic work of art! She is currently working on several new projects, and you can watch her progress here on her Instagram profile.
