Thursday Salute to Originals: Retro Pointed Cakes

Despite what they say… You can have your cake and eat it, too!

These funky cakes by Alana Jones-Mann are just… *Chef’s kiss* At first glance, we really can’t be sure that these are actually real, edible cakes. They are so ornate that they often appear to be eccentric decor instead! But upon closer examination, we see that these thick yet intricate patterns are in fact frosting.

Alana, a Brooklyn-based baker and artist, bakes her cakes and pastries so that they resemble rugs, shags, and other floor coverings. Their frosting often features geometric and ornamental patterns in vivid, bold colors. What’s really incredible is the texture! Alana uses a pointillist technique when frosting, giving these baked goods a cool retro style. When it comes to rugs, these ones really take the cake. Pun intended.

This Thursday, we’re saluting Alana Jones-Mann and her quirky cakes. We’d like to give our compliments to the chef. You can view more of Alana’s funky baked goods here on her Instagram profile.
