Thursday Salute to Originals: Composition Composers
Photographers deploy creative composition techniques to add a playful twist to various settings.
Valencia native photographers Anna Devis and Daniel Rueda merge creative concepts and real-world settings seamlessly in their ongoing portrait collaborations.
Taking shapes and color blocks from otherwise mundane backdrops, their photographs compose new narrative-driven shots that add a transformative touch of playful whimsy.
While the composition of each photo inspires feelings of ease and joy, executing each scene takes careful planning and concept-mapping — many photoshoots even start with sketches.
“At first glance, one would probably think that most of our images are not very difficult to capture because of their modest appearance. But, with the passing years, we’ve learned that achieving this level of simplicity is really, really complicated,” said Devis said in an interview with This is Colossal.
From a casually leaning tree to a scarf that points “up and to the right,” the themes of each photo are broad. However, creative thought and humor unify the photographers’ extensive portfolio of portraits around a charming, minimal motif.
This Thursday, we’re saluting Anna Devis’s and Daniel Rueda’s composition skills and commitment to joyful minimalism. You can view a massive archive of their photography projects on Devis’s Instagram or Rueda’s Instagram. Prints are available on their shared website.
